Just seems like many gearheads are becoming like sheep and follow each other rather than research the best parts for their needs. There are better cams than the hot LT4 cam now, don't be lazy by just throwing in the same cam because that is what everyone else uses. It's a decent cam for sure, but it is older technology that is a bit outdated with more advanced cams out there now. Many over at thridgen, aren't too impressed by either LT4 cam. Your not confusing the LT4 cam with the LT4 "Hot" cam are you? They are two different roller cams you can buy. Given my personal experience with the LT4 cam, I have to say it works well and has a nice lumpy idle. The post below is much more informative with build specs and dyno posts. I'd be good to hear if you've experienced it for yourself and why. I'm really not sure how much to believe from what little he says. Haha - BuickRunner - congrats on finding that post with the guy that doesn't like his LT4 cam. Mild gasket matching is the most you really want to do with Vortecs. Vortecs are all about controlled flow and mixing unlike older SBC heads which are just uncontrolled flow and random mixing.

Bottom line, there is no one-size fits all carbed cam rule.Īlso you have to be careful about porting Vortecs so you don't lose their velocity which is what makes them so good. But just like with EFI, head flow and performance goals will skew the cam specs. Single plane intakes with carbs will typical respond to more overlap as well. Typically, the single plane intakes will want an earlier intake valve open and closing point than a long runner EFI intake. A dual plane will want different valve events than a single plane. Really it depends on the intake manifold that you run. Stock wheels w/235/50/15 BF Goodrich tires It's not 450hp, but running a 13.4 second quarter mile, it's around 300hp to the wheels. I've been running one for years with my Holley SA 670 and it makes great power and driveability. I have heard that the LT4 hot cams don't work well with carburetors.ĭo you have a link because I disagree.
